REFLEXOLOGY

What is Reflexology?
Reflexology originated in China 5,000 years ago.  This is a gentle therapy where the feet will be gently worked on with massage, stroking and other techniques.  This therapy helps to reduce stress and anxiety and promotes a feeling of wellbeing.

Reflexology can promote natural healing by helping the body to rebalance and so enable self healing to take place.  Some clients after a treatment experience a desire to rest and sleep which in itself may be an opportunity for the body to recoup its energy.

Crystalline deposits accumulate in the reflex points in the feet which makes them tender to touch.  When we are feeling ill or under stress these reflex points become what we term congested and a reflexologist will work to unblock and balance them. In order to help your body restore it's natural balance.

The Reflexologist may use a light touch or slightly deeper pressure depending on the client's needs, and the desired outcome of the treatment.  A lighter touch works more on an emotional level, and by using a deeper pressure the therapist Is working at a deeper level on the physical body. The client will be asked to assist the relexologist by giving feedback during the treatment in order to assure that the client is comfortable with the treatment.

How does it help us?
There are various reflex areas on the feet which are associated with the various organs and systems in the body.  By working on an area of the feet we are indirectly affecting the related part of the body.  For instance the large toe is the reflex area for your head.  Having a reflexology treatment is a little like having a mini M.O.T. for your body.  Your body will be given a little boost, your immune system will be worked on and your lymphatic system, which helps you get rid of toxins, so you will also have a de-tox after the treatment and the body will have a cleanse.  The treatment also releases pain-killing endorphins so it is a useful treatment for anyone in pain. It also eases any tension held in the body.

Some people report that they feel relaxed and re-energised by the treatment and some feel they are able to cope and focus better. This therapy does have a cumulative effect, and regular treatments are most beneficial.

A course of 4 to 6 treatments is normally advised if there is a particular problem.  Some clients come every 4 to 6 weeks just to de-stress, relax, and de-tox.

What conditions is it useful for?
Stress, insomnia, fluid retention, headaches, migraines, digestive problems, sub-fertility, anxiety, leg cramps, high blood pressure, fatigue, hormonal imbalances.

Treatment and Costs
At a first appointment, a consultation including completing a health questionnaire, will be carried out, in order to gain a picture of your current health.

Diet and lifestyle advice may also be given in order to help you achieve optimum health.

Treatments cost are £35.00 for the first treatment which will take  1hr and 15 minutes.
Repeat treatments are £28.00 for an hour.

BACH FLOWER THERAPY

In the 1920's and 30's a noted homeopath and bacterologist called Dr Edward Bach discovered a complete system of 38 Flower Remedies. This is a subtle form of energy medicine, but very effective, and safe for all the family. The remedies are prepared from flowers and trees, and provide a harmless, non-habit forming system of healing. Dr Bach discovered that certain wild flowers contain the vitality to help restore balance in a personality thrown out of harmony, by worries, or stress, fatigue, or feeling low and depressed about our daily lives.

How does it work?
This is a very gentle form of therapy where a treatment bottle will be given to the client containing a combination of Bach Flower Essences. The purpose of the remedies is to bring you back into balance whether you are over anxious, depressed, unable to sleep, have a deep rooted fear of some kind, or similar conditions.  Taking the flower remedies over a time will help with these problems.

The Bach Remedies do not interfere with nor be affected by any other form of  medical treatment.  They do however contain a tiny amount of brandy in the mixture, so this is not a therapy for those intolerant to alcohol.

What conditions can this be useful for?
This therapy is useful for anyone who suffers from depression, lack of confidence, anxiety, panic attacks, fatigue, stress, insomnia.

Bach Flower Therapy can be helpful if you are going through any change In your life and can be particularly useful for women during the menopause. It is also useful for children and young adults who may be going through changes In their life, (moving house, changing school, sitting exams etc) It can also offer support for those who are in chronic pain.

Treatment and  costs
During the consultation  the therapist will ask relevant questions about yourself In order to build up a clear picture of the remedies needed. A prescription will then be obtained for the client by a careful diagnosis. A treatment bottle will then be given containing your individual remedy.

Consultations last about 30 to 40 minutes and cost £18.00 this will include your treatment bottle.  Repeat consultations are £15.00

AROMATHERAPY

What is Aromatherapy?
This is the use of Essential Oils for their curative properties.  As long ago as 4000bc, the techniques of pressing, boiling and maceration were being used by civilisations in the East to obtain fragrant essences from, flowers, leaves, and woods. The pomades and aromatic oils thus made were used in ointments for anointing kings and holy men, for therapeutic purposes and also for cosmetics and perfumes. Modern aromatherapy stems from the work of French chemist, Rene Gatte Fosse in the 1930's.

Aromatherapy is a holistic therapy taking into account the mind, body and spirit of an individual. The use of essential oils is a very sensitive and subtle approach to healing.

It takes the petals from 30 highly perfumed roses to produce just one drop of rose essential oil. For one small bottle of lavender oil several kilos of lavender flowers are needed.

The oils have a balancing effect on the body and will help the person achieve well-being.

An important part of aromatherapy is massage, which encourages absorption of the essential oils in to the skin and stimulates circulation. The massage will be gentle yet therapeutic with light effleurage strokes and gentle pressure. This type of massage will help calm the nervous system and relax tense muscles. In turn this will improve your well-being and encourage your body to relax and heal.

How does Aromatherapy work?
Aromatherapy brings the power of touch and smell which can in turn have a therapeutic effect on the body.  Each essential oil used has its own specific healing properties.  A number of the oils can be used to calm the nervous system, others reduce inflammation, or ease aches and pains, and some uplift the spirits. Inhaled scents will stimulate the olfactory centres in the nose and particular parts of the brain.

What can it help?
Aromatherapy massage can be very useful for those who are stressed, anxious, or in pain, useful for insomnia, depression, high blood pressure, fluid retention, poor circulation, arthritis, headaches, migraines, menopausal symptoms.

This is an ideal therapy to bring calm and tranquillity and enhance well-being.

Consultation
During a first consultation a detailed questionnaire will be filled out with your medical history.  You will be asked questions about your lifestyle, your diet, and advice will be given.

Cost of  treatment  £25.00  Full Body Massage with oils £35.00

MASSAGE

Massage involves kneading, smoothing and stretching the soft tissue (muscle and fascia) of the body.  Massage is as old as the hills and continues to be practiced all over the world. In the West, where people are more reserved, we are less used to touching and being touched. A massage treatment provides a safe, pleasurable, non-sexual, way of experiencing touch which aims to benefit both mind and body.

What effect does massage have on the mind and body?
Muscle condition can be improved by the mechanical affect of moving the tissues of the body.  The kneading and wringing movements of massage can loosen adhesions in the muscle tissue, allowing oxygen and nutrients to reach all the muscle cells, increasing their ability to function optimally.

Massage has an effect on the body's physiology, long flowing strokes can relax the nervous system; blood flow Is temporarily increased; lymphatic flow is improved. Short quick strokes send reflex signals to the cell receptors in muscle fibres, helping them to contract and improving muscle tone (useful in cases where muscle tissue has wasted, such as the period of recovery after an accident. Or just before a sporting event, when toned, responsive muscle tissue is essential to event performance)

Massage can help people feel psychologically better, for example there may be a reduction of stress, and a restful sleepy state may be induced. Conversely, people who are feeling lethargic and mildly depressed, may benefit from a more stimulating treatment to increase well-being.

What are the benefits of massage?

  • Decrease in muscle tension stimulating treatment to increase well-being.
  • Increased range of movement in restricted joints and tight muscles; increased awareness of  mind-body connection; reduction of chronic pain.
  • Reduced recovery time from exercise or training; reduced stress and anxiety.
  • Overall sense of well-being.

What conditions can massage alleviate?
As well as being relaxing and enjoyable in itself, massage can often bring relief of certain conditions, such as:

  • Lower back pain.
  • Tight neck and shoulder muscles.
  • Postural issues; headaches and migraine.
  • Decreased range of  movement caused by osteoarthritis: anxiety, depression, low self-esteem/body Image.

Massage can be enjoyed as, a relaxing, nourishing, positive experience. Effects of regular treatments are cumulative and massage in combination with other positive lifestyle changes can go a long way to achieving optimum health.

What does a treatment involve?
At the initial appointment, a brief consultation will be carried out. This is to establish whether massage is suitable for you, and what outcome you wish to achieve.

During your massage you are covered by discrete use of towels and always keep your underwear on during treatment.

The individual's comfort and wellbeing is uppermost and whilst Penny may gradually work more deeply on people's  muscles during the treatment, She always aims to work within comfortable limits, not being a subscriber to the no pain, no gain school of bodywork!

Treatment Costs
20 minute seated acupressure massage £10
30 minutes £18.00
40 minutes £22.00
1 hour        £30.00

HYPNOSIS

Hypnosis is a highly respectful and gentle way of helping people get in touch with their inner resources in order to make  significant shifts in their life. Hypnosis, or trance, is an altered (and often heightened) state of awareness which facilitates this connection with your unconscious resources.

Since all hypnosis is self-hypnosis, your practitioner will help you to learn to take yourself into a trance in a way that is right for you so that you can make changes at the unconscious level.

Hypnosis is a useful stand-alone therapeutic approach - but it also works extraordinarily well with Neuro-Linguistic Programming. In practice, your practitioner is likely to use a tailor-made approach which combines the right tools for the issue through which you would like to work.

Hypnosis could be for you:

  1. If you have tried consciously to make changes but without success.
  2. If you have tried pretty much everything else and still haven't got the change that you want.
  3. If you want to gain more control over unconscious processes.
  4. If you want to access deep states of relaxation.
  5. If you have unwanted negative emotions and you want to release them.
  6. If you are experiencing a pervasive negative state and you want to feel different.
  7. If you have unwanted behaviour or habit and you want a new (wanted) behaviour that is as automatic as the old behaviour.
  8. If you want to increase your self-esteem.
  9. If you want to increase confidence.
  10. If you want to manage your weight.
  11. If you want to resolve a phobia.
  12. If you want to  deal with past trauma.
  13. If you want to let go of the past so you can live in the present.
  14. If you want to learn to relax and manage stress effectively.
  15. If you want to manage a significant transition in your life.
